Abstract. Penelitian ini mengkaji alasan rasional mahasiswa memilih profesi sebagai pemandu live streaming di aplikasi TikTok dan WeSing. Tujuan penelitian ini dilakukan ialah untuk mengetahui pilihan rasional mahasiswa memilih menjadi seorang pemandu streaming Serta untuk mengetahui masalah gender yang dialami pemandu streaming dan penghasilan yang dihasilkan oleh seorang pemandu streaming serta cara pembayaran dan pendapatan yang mereka gunakan untuk mendapatkan Penghasilan. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan teori pilihan rasional dari James Coleman, penelitian ini berfokus pada faktor-faktor internal dan eksternal yang mempengaruhi keputusan mahasiswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dengan tiga informan yang dipilih menggunakan metode purposive dan snowball sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa faktor internal, seperti rasa penasaran, peluang untuk mengekspresikan diri, dan keinginan untuk mengembangkan keterampilan, menjadi alasan utama mahasiswa memilih profesi ini. Sementara itu, faktor eksternal seperti potensi penghasilan, kemudahan sistem monetisasi, dan pengaruh dari lingkungan sekitar juga memainkan peran penting.
Abstract. This research examines the rational reasons why students choose the profession of being a live streaming guide on the TikTok and WeSing applications. The purpose of this research was to find out the rational choices of students in choosing to become a streaming guide and to find out the gender problems experienced by streaming guides and the income generated by a streaming guide as well as the payment methods and income they use to earn income. Using a qualitative approach and rational choice theory from James Coleman, this research focuses on internal and external factors that influence student decisions. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with three informants selected using purposive and snowball sampling methods. The research results show that internal factors, such as curiosity, opportunities to express themselves, and the desire to develop skills, are the main reasons why students choose this profession. Meanwhile, external factors such as income potential, ease of monetization system, and influence from the surrounding environment also play an important role.
