Cough and cold are common health problems experienced by people of all ages and can interfere with daily activities and quality of life. The use of traditional herbal medicine is one of the alternative approaches widely practiced by Indonesian communities. JAKEKU, a herbal preparation consisting of ginger (Zingiber officinale), aromatic ginger (Kaempferia galanga), and turmeric (Curcuma longa), contains bioactive compounds that may help relieve symptoms of cough and cold. However, public knowledge regarding the proper preparation and use of this herbal remedy remains limited. This community service activity aimed to improve community knowledge regarding the benefits, preparation methods, and proper use of JAKEKU herbal therapy as a complementary treatment for cough and cold among residents of RT 04, Sungai Bakung Village. A descriptive observational approach was employed using pre-test and post-test questionnaires to assess participants' knowledge before and after the educational intervention. The activity included health education sessions, interactive discussions, and a live demonstration of JAKEKU preparation. Participants consisted of 15 community members who met the inclusion criteria and were willing to participate in the entire program. The results demonstrated an increase in knowledge across all age groups after the educational intervention. The average score of participants aged 30–45 years increased from 7.88 to 10.00, those aged 46–55 years increased from 6.66 to 9.00, and participants aged over 55 years increased from 7.00 to 10.00. These findings indicate that the educational program effectively enhanced participants’ understanding of the benefits, preparation procedures, and appropriate use of JAKEKU herbal therapy. Health education combined with practical demonstrations effectively improved community knowledge regarding JAKEKU herbal therapy. Increased knowledge is expected to encourage the rational, safe, and appropriate use of herbal medicine as a complementary approach to relieving cough and cold symptoms.
