Hypertension is a non-communicable disease whose prevalence continues to increase among rural communities, including in Sungai Bakung Village RT 07, Sungai Tabuk District, Banjarmasin. Residents' low understanding of local plant-based non-pharmacological approaches encourages the implementation of educational and training activities for making herbal decoctions. This activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of participants in processing Syzygium polyanthum, Apium graveolens L., Allium sativum, Zingiber officinale, and Curcuma xanthorrhiza as complementary therapy for high blood pressure control. The method applied is combinative, combining interactive lectures, leaflet distribution, live demonstrations, and participatory question and answer sessions. A total of 16 residents participated in the activity which lasted a full day. Changes in knowledge were measured using structured pre-test and post-test questionnaire instruments. The average score experienced a significant increase from 67.5% to 88.75%, with an increase of 21.25 percentage points. The proportion of participants in the good knowledge category jumped from 43.75% to 93.75%, while the category shrank quite from 43.75% to 6.25%, and the less than 12.5% category to 0%. All participants who were originally in the category of less successful exit from the category after the intervention. These findings prove that a hands-on, practice-based educational approach effectively improves people's health literacy in the use of local medicinal plants as a safe and evidence-based independent health solution.
