Abstract

Abstract. Cancer prevention and early detection require strengthened community-based approaches. This program aimed to improve knowledge and develop the educational skills of community health cadres as Cancer-Responsive Cadres in Batu Kumbung Village, West Lombok Regency, Indonesia. A total of 40 cadres participated in a pre-test, educational sessions using the Cancer-Responsive Module, discussions, educational simulations, mentoring, and a post-test. The proportion of cadres with a good level of knowledge increased from 0% at pre-test to 87.5% at post-test, exceeding the program target of 80%. All cadres participated in educational simulations designed to practice delivering key messages on cancer prevention and early detection. Formative observations indicated that some cadres still required additional support in organizing educational content systematically and improving their confidence in delivering health information. Following the training, the cadres were encouraged to provide education to their families and communities, with monitoring conducted through direct communication and WhatsApp groups, as well as supervision by the community service team in collaboration with local partners. Comprehensive module-based education strengthened the cadres’ initial capacity to support community-based cancer prevention and early detection; however, standardized assessment of their communication skills should be conducted during the follow-up phase.
