Abstract. Limited access to mental health professionals and the persistence of stigma surrounding mental health problems remain major challenges in providing psychological support within communities. This activity aimed to improve cadres’ knowledge and capacity to provide initial mental health assistance through the Sanggah Jiwa Training. The activity employed a descriptive quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design, complemented by participant observations and reflections. The Sanggah Jiwa Training, conducted as part of the SIGAP METRO (Siaga Gerakan Aktif Pulihkan Mental Kota Metro) program, was held on August 2, 2026, in Metro City and involved volunteer cadres from the Rumah Peluk Community under the auspices of the Metro City BKKBN. The training materials covered an understanding of cadres’ roles and boundaries, active listening, emotional validation, simple stabilization techniques, peer support, cadre self-care, and the utilization of green open spaces as a “Nature Clinic.” The activities included instructional sessions, simulations, role-plays, skills practice, and reflection. Evaluation results indicated an improvement in participants’ understanding following the training, particularly regarding the role of peer counselors, appropriate responses to high-risk situations, and the concept of the “Nature Clinic.” Sanggah Jiwa Training may serve as an approach to strengthening cadres’ capacity to support community-based mental health assistance while maintaining appropriate competency boundaries and recognizing the need for referral to mental health professionals.
