Abstract

Optimal psychological functioning, or flourishing, is a defining marker of well-being in positive psychology, spanning the emotional, social, and psychological facets of a person's life. For many emerging adults, however, this state can be difficult to sustain amid ongoing identity exploration, academic pressure, and uncertainty about the future. This study tested how resilience helps explain the link between daily spiritual experiences and flourishing among Indonesian emerging adults. Using a correlational survey design, 385 respondents aged 18 to 29 were recruited online through incidental sampling and completed the Flourishing Scale, the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale, and the 10-item Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale. Linear regression and mediation analysis revealed that daily spiritual experiences were a significant positive predictor of both flourishing (β = .385, p < .001) and resilience (β = .274, p < .001), while resilience itself significantly predicted flourishing (β = .595, p < .001). A partial mediation effect was confirmed (indirect effect = .126, p < .001), indicating that daily spiritual experiences shape flourishing not only directly but also by building resilience. Practically, resilience-building may serve as a useful complement to spiritual practice in interventions designed for this age group.
