The purpose of this study was designed to examine the effect of autogenic relaxation on reducing anxiety on the athletes of shooting. This study uses an experimental research method with pre and posttest control group design. The treatment in this study was autogenic relaxation given for 8 times. The participants of this study were 12 shooting athletes from the East Java Training Center. Data obtained through sport anxiety scale. Independent t test was used as a data analysis technique. The results of the research show that the t value is -9.398 with p less than 0.001. This shows that autogenic relaxation training effective to reduce shooting athlete’s anxiety. The decrease of anxiety occurred partly due to the athlete's acceptance of the importance of mental training and autogenic relaxation mechanisms lead to specific responses against anxiety symptoms. Autogenic relaxation can be used as an intervention for reduce shooting athlete’s anxiety.
