Focus and Scope

Majalah Kesehatan Indonesia (MAKEIN) encourages innovative research that enriches understanding and improves practices within various healthcare contexts. Majalah Kesehatan Indonesia serves as a vital platform for academics, researchers, and practitioners to share insights and engage in discussions that enhance health outcomes and healthcare practices. We welcome original research articles, review articles, and case studies that contribute significantly to our thematic areas.

• Public Health and Epidemiology; Encompasses the analysis of health determinant factors, epidemiological studies of communicable and non-communicable diseases, and public health interventions aimed at enhancing the quality of life within communities.
• Nursing, Maternity and Midwifery; Includes modern nursing and midwifery practices, Pharmacology (nursing), patient care management, Nurse Assisting, and nursing and midwifery education to prepare competent professional personnel. This field also encompasses maternal and child health, focusing on the health and well-being of mothers and their children through comprehensive care, education, and support during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.
• Nutrition and Dietetics; Focuses on the study of nutrition and metabolism, nutritional interventions across various populations, and the relationship between diet and disease to support optimal health and disease prevention.
• Environmental Health and Occupational Health; Highlights the impact of environmental factors on health, occupational safety and health, and the management of waste and sanitation to prevent diseases and protect the environment.
• Mental Health; Concentrates on individual and community mental health, interventions in healthcare, as well as stress management and quality of life improvement.

Publication Frequency

Starting from the year 2025, the Majalah Kesehatan Indonesia is published quarterly, with issues released in January, April, July, and October. This schedule ensures the timely dissemination of high-quality research and provides a consistent platform for scholars to share their findings throughout the year.

Majalah Kesehatan Indonesia is a fully open access journal that adheres to the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) and complies with the DOAJ Open Access Definition. We believe that free and unrestricted access to scientific knowledge fosters wider dissemination, visibility, and impact of scholarly work. By "open access", we mean that all published content is freely available online, without charge to users or their institutions. Users are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles in this journal without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author, provided proper attribution is given.

All articles published in MAKEIN are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). This license allows others to copy, redistribute, remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially, as long as appropriate credit is given and derivative works are distributed under the same license as the original.

Authors retain full copyright of their work and grant MAKEIN the right of first publication. No permission is required from the publisher to use the published content for academic and non-commercial purposes, as long as appropriate credit is given and the use complies with the CC BY-SA 4.0 license.

Commercial Use Disclaimer

While MAKEIN supports the wide use and reuse of published content, any form of commercial use must comply with the share-alike requirements. The following are considered commercial purposes and must be done in accordance with CC BY-SA licensing:

Special Note for Authors

Journal Archiving Policy

Majalah Kesehatan Indonesia (MAKEIN) is committed to the long-term preservation and accessibility of its scholarly content. In accordance with the COPE Guidelines and international best practices, MAKEIN has established a comprehensive digital archiving policy to ensure the enduring availability of its published materials, even in the event that the journal or its publisher ceases operations.

Primary Archiving Mechanism: PKP Preservation Network (PKP-PN)

All articles published in MAKEIN are preserved through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP-PN). The PKP-PN, integrated within the Open Journal Systems (OJS), serves as a secure, dark archive designed to safeguard content from accidental loss, corruption, or obsolescence. It ensures that all scholarly records remain intact and accessible for future retrieval. The PKP-PN operates in compliance with LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) principles.

Secondary Archiving Channels

In addition to the PKP-PN, MAKEIN utilizes other trusted archiving and indexing services to broaden the scope of its digital preservation:

• Garba Rujukan Digital (Garuda): As Indonesia’s national digital reference system, Garuda serves as a vital hub for archiving academic content and metadata sharing across Indonesian institutions.
• ISSN Portal: The journal’s metadata and preservation status are available via the ISSN International Centre, which enhances global discoverability and preservation monitoring.
• Institutional and Subject Repositories: Authors are strongly encouraged to deposit copies of their accepted manuscripts in institutional repositories or subject-specific archives. This aligns with open science principles and further supports redundancy in preservation.

Open Access and Redundancy

All articles published in MAKEIN are licensed under an open-access Creative Commons license (CC BY-SA 4.0), facilitating unrestricted sharing, indexing, and archiving by libraries and repositories worldwide. The use of multiple, geographically distributed archiving systems provides a redundant, fail-safe framework that secures the journal’s scholarly record against potential threats.

Contingency Planning

In the event of journal closure or disruption of operations, MAKEIN will activate its contingency archiving plan, which includes the maintenance of its archives through partner institutions, continued access via LOCKSS-compatible repositories, and notification to relevant indexing services to ensure uninterrupted scholarly access.

This digital preservation policy supports MAKEIN’s mission to uphold the integrity, transparency, and durability of scholarly publishing while adhering to the COPE Core Practices on archiving and long-term content access.

Plagiarism Policy

Majalah Kesehatan Indonesia upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and publication ethics. As a member of the scholarly community, MAKEIN strictly adheres to the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in identifying, preventing, and addressing all forms of plagiarism and unethical academic behavior.

Plagiarism Screening and Detection

All submitted manuscripts are subjected to initial plagiarism screening using reliable similarity detection software such as iThenticate (CrossCheck). Manuscripts showing a similarity index of 20% or higher (excluding references, quotations, and methodology) will be returned to the authors for revision or may be rejected outright depending on the severity and nature of the overlap.

Definition and Forms of Plagiarism

• Verbatim Copying: Reproducing text word-for-word without quotation or citation.
• Substantial Copying: Copying large sections or core elements without acknowledgment.
• Paraphrasing Without Attribution: Rewriting another’s ideas in new words without citing the source.
• Self-Plagiarism: Reusing one's previously published work without disclosure or citation.

All forms of plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, are considered serious breaches of publication ethics and may result in rejection, retraction, or formal notification to affiliated institutions.

Citations and References

All statements in the manuscript must be supported by relevant and up-to-date literature. Practices such as excessive self-citation, citation cartels, or coordinated citation collaborations are strongly discouraged and will be critically evaluated. Citations must be conducted ethically to acknowledge the contributions of other scholars and to maintain transparency in academic discourse.

Authors are also encouraged to carefully review all reference sources used in their manuscripts and ensure that these references do not originate from questionable or non-credible sources. Citations should preferably come from reputable journals, recognized scholarly books, or official reports from trusted institutions. The use of unreliable or dubious sources may compromise the scientific quality of the manuscript and increase the risk of editorial rejection. Authors are expected to thoroughly evaluate the integrity, relevance, and authority of each reference cited.
